Achalasia of the Esophagus



Abstract
Achalasia of the esophagus is a disease of neuromuscular dysfunction from unknown cause and characterized by absence of peristalsis in the body of the esophagus and failure of the inferior esophageal sphincter to relax in response to the swallowing. Achalasia of the esophagus occurs with age at onset ranging from 2 to 88 years fiut commonly during the 4 th to 6 th decades, and equal frequency in the sexes. We experienced a case of achalasia of the esophagus and¢¥ presented with review of the world literature.
